National Assembly of Togo opened its first extraordinary session of 2026 on Tuesday, February 24. Lawmakers are set to review seven key bills addressing security, the economy, and social issues.
Top priority will be the extension of the security emergency in the Savanes region due to ongoing threats. Parliament will also debate a bill to strengthen the fight against money laundering and terrorism financing. Reforms targeting the microfinance sector aim to boost financial inclusion and protect vulnerable groups. MPs will further examine amendments to the legal and fiscal framework of the West African Gas Pipeline.
A draft law on combating counterfeiting within the West African Economic and Monetary Union is also on the agenda. Assembly President Sélom Klassou said the session seeks to pass urgent reforms before the next ordinary sitting in April.
