Stakeholders in the shea industry met in Kara on March 12, 2026, to discuss the sector’s future. The meeting focused on sustainability and better organisation of the shea value chain. Participants included producers, processors, exporters, and government representatives. The discussions also prepared the creation of the Interprofessional Council for the Shea Sector in Togo. Key issues included improving kernel quality, boosting local processing, and increasing market value.
Stakeholders also highlighted women’s entrepreneurship and cooperative development. Elisabeth Essodolom Pali-Tchalla said shea butter provides income for thousands of rural women. Togo is the world’s seventh-largest shea producer, with 35,000–50,000 tons of kernels produced each year.
