President John Mahama has declared three days of national mourning starting Thursday, August 7, following a tragic military helicopter crash. Eight Ghanaians, including top government and military officials, lost their lives in the incident.
As a mark of respect, all presidential engagements for the rest of the week have been suspended. National flags are to fly at half-mast until further notice, per the Chief of Staff’s directive. Victims include Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohamme. The Air Force crew members also killed were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah. Recovery operations are underway at the Dampia Range Forest Reserve, where the crash occurred. Military and police units are managing the scene as ambulances and support vehicles transport the bodies.
