Soyinka’s Classic Stuns at National Theatre

The National Theatre hosted a grand performance of Wole Soyinka’s Death and the King’s Horseman on Sunday, August 31.

Directed by George Quaye, the play was staged with support from Image Bureau, April Communications, and the National Theatre. The story follows Elesin Oba, played by Andrew Tandoh Adote, who must perform a sacred duty but faces colonial interference. The clash between Yoruba tradition and British law created powerful drama on stage. Choreographer Marianna Minasova blended African and European dance styles to enrich the performance.

The National Symphony Orchestra and National Dance Company added music and movement that thrilled the audience. Costumes, lighting, and raw acting kept theatre lovers fully engaged until the climax. The show ended with a standing ovation, marking it as a true theatrical masterpiece.
