Togo Reflects on Land Reform Gains

Authorities in Togo are reviewing progress made under the Land Reform Project for increased agricultural productivity. The project was part of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Threshold Program. A national consultation workshop was held in Lomé to assess the results. Local authorities, traditional leaders, researchers and community members attended the meeting. Pilot projects tested participatory land management in several municipalities.

The reforms helped reduce land disputes and improve land access for women and youth. About 37.5% of the targeted land area was successfully mapped. However, the program ended early after the Donald Trump administration froze some foreign aid in 2025.
