Sidi Tiémoko Touré has overseen the signing of a major partnership to boost Côte d’Ivoire’s aquaculture sector. The agreement was signed on March 27 between the Ministry and the Université de San Pedro, led by Professor Méké Méïté. The deal supports the ProDeCAP programme aimed at transforming fisheries and aquaculture value chains. Authorities say the move responds to a heavy import bill of 782 billion FCFA recorded in 2024. The government plans to reduce imports by increasing local production through scientific research.
The university will serve as a key research hub for innovation, training, and technical solutions. Focus areas include improved fish breeding, animal nutrition, and sustainable use of marine resources. Officials believe the initiative will create jobs, strengthen the blue economy, and drive long-term growth.
