Oyo Warns Residents Over Flood Risks

The Oyo State Government has warned residents to prepare for flash floods, thunderstorms and heatwaves during the 2026 rainy season.
Commissioner for Environment Ademola Aderinto said hard ground surfaces across many areas could increase water runoff and flooding.
He explained that blocked drainage channels and waterways may worsen the situation.
The government also warned against illegal dredging and indiscriminate waste disposal.
Residents were urged to cooperate with environmental protection measures.

Aderinto said prolonged flooding could damage roads, weaken infrastructure and increase accident risks.
He added that temperatures may rise between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius during the seasonal transition.
Residents have been advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight.
The government also encouraged people to remain in cool environments whenever possible.
Authorities say emergency response teams remain on alert across vulnerable areas.
