The Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, has urged the National Assembly to pass a long-delayed bill replacing the 1963 Fire Service Act. The proposed law has remained stalled for four years despite Federal Executive Council approval in 2022.
Adeyemi said firefighters saved over 1,700 lives and protected assets worth N300 billion in early 2026 alone. He called for more fire stations through constituency projects and urged private sector support, warning that outdated laws are undermining modern emergency response capacity.
