Simone Gbagbo Submits Candidacy for 2025 Election

Simone Ehivet Gbagbo, leader of the Generations Capable Movement (MGC), has filed her papers to run in Côte d’Ivoire’s October 2025 presidential election.

The submission took place on Sunday, August 24, at the headquarters of the Independent Electoral Commission in Abidjan. She was joined by a large delegation, including Charles Blé Goudé of the Cojep party. After filing, the former First Lady said this step was required by law for all candidates. She wished for the country to have credible and peaceful elections. She stressed that the vote must be fair, transparent, and inclusive.

Gbagbo said the CEI is the right body to guarantee these principles. She ended by hoping the winner in October will reflect the true choice of Ivorians.
