Togo’s ProMIFA program is developing 400 boreholes and market garden areas to strengthen farming in rural communities. Training workshops are being held this week in Maritime, Kara, Plateaux, Centrale, and Savanes regions for ICAT technical advisors. The workshops teach management of hydro-agricultural infrastructure and community-based facility oversight. Trained agents will set up management committees, identify local stakeholders, and assess capacities at each garden site.
Digital tools like the Kobo Collect app will help collect field data and guide project planning. Officials say the program will improve off-season crop production and create jobs in rural areas. Amenunya Kokou Elolo of the Ministry of Agriculture says it will also boost farmers’ income and food security. The project is part of Togo’s agricultural modernization strategy and is co-financed by IFAD.
