Togo Plans New Transhumance Strategy

Togo is preparing a new transhumance management plan for 2026–2030. The draft is being reviewed at a stakeholder workshop in Lomé. The update is driven by population growth, Sahel conflicts, and climate change impacts. These pressures have increased clashes between herders and farmers in recent years. The plan outlines key strategies and actions to better manage livestock movement.

Lawmakers, ministries, and sector actors are working to finalize a consensus document. Support from Food and Agriculture Organization is helping guide the process. The goal is to ensure peaceful coexistence, improve food security, and protect rural communities.
