Management of VIP Jeoun Transport has defended its decision to increase transport fares due to rising operational costs. The company says it held fares steady for months despite growing financial pressure. Managing Director Adakabre Frimpong Manso explained that VIP operates independently of unions. He noted that decisions by groups like Ghana Private Road Transport Union do not affect the company. He cited high fuel prices, expensive spare parts, and poor road conditions as key challenges.
The Accra–Kumasi route, he said, now takes up to 10 hours instead of six. This has increased fuel consumption and maintenance costs significantly. Passengers, however, say the new fares, effective April 8, will add pressure to already strained household budgets.
