Koubouni Touni, mayor of Doufelgou 2, has been elected president of the Federation of Togolese Municipalities. The election took place during a general assembly held in Kara last weekend. She succeeds Yawa Kouigan, who is now the Minister of Communication in Togo. The new leadership will work to strengthen cooperation between municipalities. They also plan to support development in local communities. One major priority is to help advance the country’s decentralisation process.
Municipalities will be encouraged to use strategic tools for governance and sustainable development. The federation aims to strengthen the voice of local authorities in national policies.
