FIFTO 2026 celebrates African storytelling

The Togo International Film Festival has opened its 9th edition in Lomé. The event runs from April 14 to 18, showcasing 33 films from multiple countries. This year’s theme highlights African stories told in local languages and everyday contexts. Films from across Africa and beyond will compete, while others will be screened out of competition. The festival aims to promote a more authentic and vibrant African film industry.

Masterclasses are also planned to support learning and exchange among filmmakers. A co-production agreement between Togo and Senegal is expected during the event. Minister Isaac Tchiakpé says film remains a powerful tool for education and cultural expression.
