Abidjan welcomed 70 young girls to an all-female MiniBasketball festival on August 1. The event coincided with the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket tournament in the city.
Participants, aged 8 to 12, trained with African basketball legends, including Salimata Berte and Solange Ebondji. They practiced passing, shooting, and coordination using equipment designed for mini basketball. Olympic medalist Ruth Bagbi delivered an inspiring message on peace and unity through sport. Former stars Batouly Camara and Patricia Lorougnon also engaged with the youngsters.
The day ended with the girls attending the Côte d’Ivoire vs Cameroon AfroBasket match. The initiative forms part of FIBA Africa’s program to boost grassroots basketball.
