Togo may face heavy rainfall and possible flooding during the 2026 rainy season in its southern regions. The rainy season usually runs from March to July across the country.
Climate experts say rainfall could be above average, especially between March and May. The forecast was discussed in Lomé during the PRESAGG 2026 Regional Climate Forum. Meteorological services from Ghana, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire and Nigeria also participated in the meeting. Experts warn that coastal cities may face higher flooding risks because of high population density and weak drainage systems.
Climatologists are urging authorities and residents to take preventive measures and strengthen disaster management plans. The warning follows unusual weather patterns linked to rising sea surface temperatures in the Gulf of Guinea.
