Guinea-Liberia Border Tensions Escalate

Thousands of residents have fled communities in Liberia’s Foya District after reports emerged of Guinean troops advancing near the Makona River amid a growing territorial dispute.

Liberian senator Edwin Snowe said tensions escalated during proceedings at the ECOWAS Parliament when Guinea’s representative Dansa Kourouma insisted the disputed land belongs to Guinea. Regional lawmakers warned the disagreement could destabilise the area if not urgently addressed diplomatically.
