The National Road Safety Authority has stood firm on restricting the use of the Toyota Voxy for long-distance commercial transport. Director-General Abraham Amaliba says safety is more important than industry concerns. The decision follows a technical committee’s warning about risks linked to these vehicles. Many of the vehicles are imported and modified for passenger use. Experts say such modifications can make them unsafe for intercity travel.
The Commercial Transport Operators of Ghana has opposed the directive. They argue the ban does not solve wider road safety problems. Despite this, the NRSA says it will enforce the rule and engage stakeholders to improve safety nationwide.
