Digital Payments Surge in Ghana

Mobile money transactions in Ghana rose to GH¢3.01 trillion in 2024, the Bank of Ghana has reported. This marked a strong 56.8 percent increase compared to the 2023 figure.

Agent-to-agent transfers remained the largest share of transaction value. Transaction volumes also increased sharply, reaching 8.1 billion transactions. The growth shows that many Ghanaians now use mobile money for frequent, low-value payments. In the first ten months of 2025, transaction values climbed further to GH¢3.6 trillion.

Internet and mobile banking recorded significant growth in both value and volume. The central bank attributed the surge to new digital banking services and rising customer demand.
