Education Ministry Probes UTAG Allegations

Ghana’s Ministry of Education has set up a committee to investigate concerns raised by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG). The three-member committee will examine allegations made against the leadership of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission. It is chaired by Deputy Education Minister Clement Apaak, with Professor K.T. Oduro and Professor Mahama Duweijua as members. The committee is expected to review the issues thoroughly and present recommendations to President John Dramani Mahama. The Ministry has urged all stakeholders to cooperate fully with the investigation process.

Officials say the goal is to promote dialogue and resolve tensions within the tertiary education sector. This action follows UTAG’s demand for the removal of top GTEC officials and a 14-day ultimatum to the government. UTAG is also calling for the withdrawal of certain directives it considers improperly issued.
