António Guterres has appointed Anita Kiki Gbeho as Head of Mission in South Sudan. She will lead the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). She replaces the late Nicholas Haysom. Ms Gbeho has over 25 years of experience in global peace and humanitarian work. She has worked in countries like Angola, Cambodia, Iraq, Somalia, and Sudan.
Since 2024, she has been serving as Deputy Special Representative at UNMISS. She also held key roles in UN Assistance Mission in Somalia and AU-UN Hybrid Operation in Darfur. She studied at the State University of New York and the University of Ghana.
